Geography
On the far north-east of the Iberian Peninsula, on smooth headland along the banks of the River Miño, Lugo was built. Nowadays it is a city of almost one hundred thousand inhabitants and more than two thousand years of history. And at the foot of the city, the River Miño and its tributaries defined nature in all its wonder
The city of Lugo is one of the biggest in Galicia; it has 332 square kilometres and 59 rural districts. Its diverse landscape—rural and urban—is singled out by the River Miño, the “jewel of the country that has two thousand rivers” as Alvaro Cunqueiro called Galicia..
Lugo to date is a commercial capital and has a university campus that offers specialised services in Agrarian science (Veterinary, Forestry). Since the Faculty of Veterinary Science was created in the mid-eighties Lugo has become one of the main university cities in Galicia, only second to Santiago.
