Lugo City is located on a high plateau, on the Upper Miño River. It is a natural route of communication between the Galician coast and the Castillian plateau. Moreover, the local district of Lugo is one of the biggest in Galicia (332 square kilometres), in which almost
one hundred thousand inhabitants live. Lugo was
founded by the Romans fifteen years before our era, when it was called
Lucus Augusti, and a wall that was constructed more than two thousand years ago still remains intact.
