San Roque Archaeological Site Museum

This has been recently opened. This is a site museum where the remains of a cemetery from the I-V centuries are on show. We can see the remains of cremation (the oldest) and burials (the most recent), as well as a pottery furnace and a pool or pond, related to Oriental rituals very common at the end of the first century A.D.

Centro Arqueológico San Roque
The two tombs that have been preserved are part of a large funeral area, that used to be located on the outskirts of the city, close to the main thoroughfares, where Roads XIX and XX, to Asturica Augusta, met.

The large pond was built with opus caementicium, although it was probably covered by granite slabs on the outside. At the end of the V century, a furnace or kiln was used to make craft pottery; taking into account that these were usually placed on the outskirts of the cities.
